Spring is when life’s alive in everything. 2023 Xiehe Spring Cross-Campus Professional Development Day has arrived as scheduled. The theme of this year’s PD Day focuses on “Sharing of Middle School Interdisciplinary Teaching Practice in the Context of the New Curriculum Standards”, and three SUIS Campuses shared and demonstrated their exploration and practice on interdisciplinary teaching on March 18. As the youngest SUIS member, SUIS Peiming hosted this activity with about 80 teachers across the SUIS campuses to witness the activity on site, and around 480 teachers attending it through the livestreaming broadcast.
“Interdisciplinary, inquiry-based and thematic”
“Interdisciplinary, inquiry-based and thematic” as the curriculum characteristic of Xiehe Education, each campus has formed its own unique style and characteristics in the early exploration. Some campuses are trying to integrate subjects such as politics, history and geography into the humanities, others are creating STEM courses in science, mathematics, physics and chemistry, and still others are exploring interdisciplinary teaching in the arts. With the continuous efforts of the campus, some of the interdisciplinary and even transdisciplinary curriculum construction have become increasingly mature, while others are still being constructed and perfected. The latest National Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan advocates interdisciplinary teaching to solve practical problems in real situations. All campuses of Xiehe have done a lot of practice and exploration before that.
In a bid to share and refine the practice and experience of SUIS campuses in the process of exploring interdisciplinary teaching, further promote the professional ability development of SUIS teachers and the featured curriculum of the SUIS campuses, and improve the quality of Xiehe education, the cross-campus teacher professional development activities will continue after the spring teacher Professional Development Day. Based on the new curriculum plan and standards, SUIS campuses will be carrying out the teaching demonstration lessons of the cross-disciplinary teaching practice in middle school from April to May.

During the progress, the observers conducted in-depth discussion on each lesson and actively interacted with the teachers. They put forward a lot of high-quality questions, which produced the collision of thinking and stimulated the spark of thought, made everyone have a broader vision and more diversified cognition on interdisciplinary classroom teaching.

In the conclusion of the activity, the general principal of Xiehe education, Maxine Lu fully recognized the content and effect of the activity, encouraged everyone to pay attention to the impact of the rapid change and development of science and technology on the future of education, requiring every teacher to constantly strengthen the training of basic teaching skills, in order to adapt to the development of the times and the needs of talent training for the country.
