Explore the infinite possibilities of life
Kathy Chen
I’m Kathy Chen. I joined SUIS as a Grade 1 student in 2002 and was a student with the school all the way through to Grade 12.
In 2019, I graduated from Boston University’s College of Communication. I’m currently working as a Human Resources Associate at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston.
I will soon embark on a new journey by enrolling this year in the Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources program at the University of Toronto.
My story
I’m Kathy Chen, a recent graduate from Boston University’s College of Communication. It was such an honour for me to graduate summa cum laude from the university. In addition, I recently received offers from master’s programs at both Columbia University and the University of Toronto. This fall, I will embark on a new journey by enrolling in the Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources program at the University of Toronto. I am happy to say that my efforts have paid off!
I’m currently working as a Human Resources Associate at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston. Although I did not study human resources, I’ve realized that my education at Boston University has allowed me to acquire skills that are transferable to many other disciplines. Thus, I have become determined to make this career change and further explore myself in this career.
My SUIS memories
What I remember most about SUIS are the teachers. They were our teachers as well as our friends. Throughout the years, they not only taught me but also gave me invaluable suggestions and insights. Thus, even after my graduation, I still keep in touch with them.
As someone who had been as student with SUIS from Grade 1, I have to say that SUIS really helped us build a good foundation for English learning. That foundation enabled me to better adapt to a western culture and environment after beginning my studies and work in the United States.
Words of encouragement
Don’t limit yourself and don’t deny any possibilities, as opportunities often turn up where you least expect them.
Make the most of your high school life. Take the time to explore your interests and yourself. The future is indeed important but you don’t have to map out your entire future right now, as life always has a degree of uncertainty to it. So, enjoy your high school life!
