Nurture your curiosity and explore the light in your heart
Laura
I’m Laura, and I graduated from SUIS Wanyuan with the Class of 2015.
I am currently a senior at the University of Washington, majoring in neurobiology and minoring in ballet.
My contribution
Hi, my name is Laura and I am a senior at the University of Washington, majoring in neurobiology and minoring in ballet.
In the neuroscience lab that I work for, my experiments have helped to prove a molecular phenomenon that promotes learning and memory in brains. It’s a tiny contribution to the field of life science, but it feels ever so rewarding to be the first to have witnessed something that has never been discovered before!
I think the most important thing I learned was a way of thinking and problem solving. I learned how to always think critically, manage my study progress independently, and communicate with teachers actively. There were also some more concrete skills I learned, such as how to write a proper essay or how to do a citation that became very helpful in college.
My SUIS memories
My time at SUIS was fun. I remember knowing and being friends with most of the students and teachers. Also, unlike some of my previous experiences, SUIS doesn’t foster a competitive atmosphere. Instead, students were encouraged to follow their interests and find their unique way to shine.
Words of encouragement
Getting accepted to a university and completing university are both major milestones, but our paths don’t stop with these. We will all face many choices in the future, and sometimes it is very difficult to know which direction in life you are truly passionate about. However, we should never stop exploring. Keep a curious heart and let it lead the way.
High school represents a very special period of time in our lives. Besides studying and preparing for university, you should also take some time to explore your interests. Knowing what you love to do and devoting yourself to it will not only help you with your university and career choices, but doing so will also make you a well-rounded person. SUIS is full of talented students and teachers who have expertise in many different areas, so take advantage of that and find out what sparks a light in your heart.
